Do you want opinions on whether the checks will work with the wallpaper, or just whether 2 differing curtains can be done? If the former, it would help to post a pic of the pattern.

Agree that the checks/plaid on all windows would probably work, too. Why not get the fabric/curtains, try it out and then ask for opinions.

What about a large colorblocked curtain or one with a big stripe on each side or on the bottom? You could alternate that with a solid, or a check if the check works. I think the reindeer wallpaper has plenty of pattern, but I am not big on pattern. You would have to try the check with the reindeer to see if it works, even if on separate walls.

I like different length curtains on different windows in the same room, or a mix of blinds and curtains. I can see your idea possibly working in a very eclectic room with impeccable editing, but not in a traditional room like yours. I'm afraid it will look like you put up whatever you had lying around. If you want a pattern, I would find a small scale check, like Annie suggested, and use it on both.

Yes I've come round to the idea that different curtains wouldn't work. It's now whether the check goes with the wallpaper or not? Otherwise plain neutral curtains it is but that leaves me feeling a little under wowed as it doesn't do much for the room! Have tried red curtains too but was just too dark on 3 windows in 1 room.

I think the check works wonderfully with your wallpaper. It's pattern-on-pattern, but it's not too busy IMO. I believe the check actually enhances your wallpaper and helps set the tone for a woodsy, lodge-feel in your room. I like it.

I like the plaid. It's still a different scale than the wallpaper and does enhance the woodsiness. The curtains are very pretty. What color are the other items in the room?

It's not the plaid per se that looks a little off to me on that wall, but that particular warm red and gold plaid against a wall where the colors seem disconnected. I don't like to match things too much, but the colors don't blend, imho.

Even with different walls (painted or wallpaper) IMHO all curtains should be the same in the one room. I can't imagine two different types of fabric in one room....I don't even care for a valance on one window and curtains on other windows with the same fabric...I guess I am just picky that way.

I love how that plaid looks with your wallpaper. I'd do both windows with it. It really tones down the busyness of the wallpaper, without looking busy in and of itself. you have a good eye!

Nutsaboutplants, it may not look like it from the photo but actually the curtain is exactly the same colour of beige and cream as the wallpaper. It's just the red in the curtain that isn't in the wallpaper but the accessories and cushions in the room are red, hence why I wanted a red check to pick out that colour.

I already voted that I think the curtains should all match. Upon seeing the plaid on the wallpaper, I think all the curtains should be that plaid! That looks nice with the wallpaper. (This is coming from someone who is both pattern and color averse normally.)

I think part of the issue is the picture above focuses just on that wall and window vs. the first shot where it shows the overall room. I think part of the issue is in the pic above, the colors don't match exact because of the sunlight coming through the drape...it makes the fabric look more yellow. But if I look at the area below the window, the fabric is a perfect match and looks great. To make sure it looks great in the room, you'll want to pick up on the red and sprinkle it in a few other places in the room...art work, a few things on the mantel, throw pillows, afghan. Once the shots of red appear elsewhere in the room, the room is going to look great. I think mixing patterns also reinforces the more rustic elements in the room including the wallpaper and fireplace brick.

Not to say your FB friends are wrong, but this is a site dedicated to decorating. Most come here either to elicit out-of-the-box suggestions or seek feedback on their own ideas. This is a very talented group, and one of our primary objectives is to help avoid decorating mistakes. Ultimately, however, the decision is yours to follow the advice or ignore.

Here's an example of mixing patterns....the print in the drape, the stripe on the wall, the plaid in the chairs and another print on the throw pillow...yet the look is one of clean elegance, not busyness.

Here's another example of mixed patterns with a more rustic look that's very handsome. The large check on the bedding, the fish pattern on the sheets, the plaid on the curtains, the stripes from the paneling and the large pattern in the rug. The key here is one of scale...not only do the colors blend but each pattern is of a different scale so they all work together. The color match is also an important element in making it look like a pleasant cohesive whole.

Well a plain linen color would certainly be the safe, no-brainer choice. Maybe if you'd take a photo of the curtain but at a distance as the first photo is, it could look totally different. I just think this little pop of color is pretty for this room.

Annie Deighnaugh -I have red cushions and a couple of red pictures/wall art and a throw so I think it will look ok. To be honest I don't really rate the interior design ideas of my Facebook friends!!! I would trust people on this site more definitely!

So much depends on an attitude here.
