This is a clear semigloss Sikkens product over 3/4" t&g heart pine boards. The Sikkens product is no longer available. Although the substantial overhangs on the house protect the deck, the finish, as with most exterior wood finishes, requires periodic maintenance and reapplication.

The idea of a finish on wood porch floors comes from the many similar t&g pine floored porches I've seen on traditional southern vernacular homes including some very old heart pine floors without finishes. The screened porch on the opposite end of this house has exactly that finish - reclaimed heart pine with no finish.

If durability and economy are a concern my suggestion for this house today would be to use KDAT pine (kiln dried after treatment, which was not on the market at the time this house was built) with a clear satin or matte natural finish. Of course, there are a variety of more expensive exotic hardwoods available but I do enjoy using economical and locally available materials.
