Help for laundry room!

HI all. I am wanting to paint my laundry room with some of the paint I have left over from the rest of the main floor. I have BM Philadelphia Cream Matte (yellowy cream), BM Dunmore Cream (yellowy cream) and BM Boston Brick (red). I would love to add the red, but not sure which walls!? I know my old laundry appliances are ugly, so I added the Lowe's stick-ons to try and make them less ugly. lol There were closet doors, but we took them off to make the room look bigger. I also want to add hooks between hall and garage doors to hang mops. Any help is appreciated! Thanks!

I pretty much see red every time I have to do laundry, so I don't think I'd want the wall painted that color! The yellow/creams would be more cheery and go well with the white (I'd worry about red reflection turning all the cabinets pink).

Is there any other place for the mops to hang? I don't think I'd want to walk by them every time I used those doors. What about a between stud closet or two right there?

    I'd add doors to this:

OHHH! That is a great idea, and looks like it could be kinda a fun project! Thanks!

Agreed Lily'smom! Any ideas on the closet? Should I hand a curtain to cover the mess?

Do you still have the closet doors? I don't think a curtain will make it feel any more spacious than the doors did and it would make me crazy to always have to shove a curtain out of the way to access things. I'd rehang the doors if you have them. I think a neat space looks more spacious and covering it all with the doors will make it very neat!

The closet doors will be in the way of the litter box. :(

The bags are hockey and figure skating bags. They kinda need to stay there because it is like a mud room as well.

I was thinking of hanging the mops, but the only place seems to be between the two doors (the entrance to the hall, and the garage door), so I would need to walk by them all the time to get to the garage. Maybe i could tuck hooks behind the door?

Agreed about the organization. I will work on it!

    Thanks everyone!

As far as paint color, sounds like one of your yellows was a winner (just make sure it has enough color to contrast with the white cabinets and trim). We are now focussing on the storage side of the room, right? Your basic problem is that it apparently came with basic clothes closet hardware and your needs appear to be everything but that. I don't see doors or a curtain being the solution -- or you may want a combination of covered and open storage. The hockey and skating bags seem best open so they can grab and go without banging a door or getting caught in a curtain. I don't know if they need to stand vertically and/or be on the floor -- not a thing we have to worry about here in Texas. On the other hand, a cabinet with a door somewhere would be nice for the mop and broom stuff.

You have plenty of space for the things you need there, but nearly half of it is going unused because you don't have the proper organization for it. I would take down the wire shelving and start from scratch. Decide what kind of budget you are willing or able to give the project and then look for ways to put it together.

I think you are going to need some kind of shelving or cabinetry to be able to use some of that height. You can go floor to ceiling and use it all. Add lots of shelves, leave some space for hanging if you need that. The easiest route might be to create custom cabinetry for the wall, but it's the most expensive option too. You might customize or modify RTA cabinets, stock cabinets or salvaged cabinets (you probably need bathroom, utility or upper cabinets to get the shallower depth, but measure everything). That doesn't need to be an expensive route. You can also repurpose bookshelves you might have or find, an old dresser, possibly and armoire. If you don't have any, look at garage sales, resale or consignment shops. Some folks have luck with Craigslist or Freecycle.

I entered "hidden kitty litter laundry room" into google, searched for images and came up with a lot of potential ideas. Some were stand alone boxes, some modified cabinets, and some with ideas for using the space above -- either putting the box in the bottom of a tall cabinet or building in storage above. One had supports to use laundry baskets like basket drawers in the space above a covered box similar to your. Look for ideas you could tailor to your needs.

BTW, if your ironing board is going to be something you see all the time -- or if you would enjoy looking at something more interesting when using it, I have gotten some nice ironing board covers at Marshall's (ours is a HomeGoods too -- don't know if that matters) or TJ Maxx. For $10, you can add some color and design -- if you like that idea.

I would mix the two cream/yellow and yellow/cream together and add some white to it. Should be a nice clean color. Need to do something to cover up the things opposite the washer/dryer. How about a curtain or shower type curtain? Could start where the littler box wall is and curve around and go to the far wall. Would hide your "stuff" and litter box would still be visible for your pet..

lascatx...I work at HomeSense (HomeGoods but in Canada!) lol So I will look for a cover, AND I get an employee discount. :) Of course, they are $20 here in Canada!

lilysmom...I put hooks in the garage for the lesser used mops, and put coat hanger hooks behind the hall door to hang the ones I use more often. (I rarely clean, so I have no idea why I have so many cleaning tools!!!!)

My budget is actually $0, so I have to try and use what I have on hand. I have not tackled painting yet, but here is what I have come up with for bins so far; trying to stream line it a bit.

I will try to add matching labels to everything next.

I took a cabinet I found on the side of the road that someone had put out for free, took off the bottom rung, turned the top around, and put it over the litter box. lolcovers it up a bit!

That's so funny - when someone mentioned the litter box up thread, I thought, what litter box? How can they see a litter box? I thought that was a pet carrier/crate! Makes sense now.

I agree with everyone else for the colors - brighter and probably not red. I wouldn't do a closet door or curtain. It looks neat and organized. BTW, your washer and dryer don't look old! Old ones were the bisque may tag set I had up until recently LOL

That already looks better. You've got the idea. Zero budget projects push your creative thinking and can be very rewarding.

See if you can dress the fronts of the wire racks somehow -- a paper or fabric strip, a cover that hangs over, a ribbon or fabric strip woven through the openings. That might help make them look more like they were intended to be seen rather than stuck behind doors.

That looks so much better. Your quick action is inspiring. Here's a tutorial on how to dress up wire shelves, maybe it will give you some ideas.

Wow great job! Looking much better. Love the cat box cover up! Color is nice. I agree on the white.

Painted the cabinets cloud white, and added a shelf! Thanks for the advice. You were all right...the other colour on the cabinets would have been much too dark. What was I thinking??

Oh, and I added a behind the door hook for the mops. Much better out of view. :)
