Seems to me your nautical charts will have light tones of blue, yellow and beige, overprinted with black lines and typeface, so I don't see navy here. Black would be nice on the base, with white or a light blue on the chairs, perhaps except the seats. Do choose your colors from the maps, and give it a glass top. Check Pier 1 for standard glass round sizes at a decent price.

Without getting too themey, I do like plain canvas grommet curtains in white for a seaworthy look.

What a great way to personalize a space and continue to use a piece of furniture your husband is so fond of. I would go a very dark navy for the table - maybe black for the chairs with some great window panels and coordinating seat cushions.... in a punch of red that would go with both the blue and beige that you have other places, but keep this area special.

It would be nice to see some of the pictures of the kitchen as Lyvonne suggested!

Here is a view of the kichen through which you can glimpse the top of a breakfast nook chair. Backsplash mosaic tiles not installed yet. Tiles are beige (of course) , a copper-y one, maple colored one, and one that is pearl-y opalescent so it has a tinge of blue in certain light.

you could save a lot of work, by simply placing navy cushions on the chairs, placing a navy table cover on the table, and on top of it a glass top. Pictures with nautical theme on the walls and you're done.

Here is another view of the nook (some touch-ups still underway!). The furniture is really VERY yellowed and dated although I like the look of a pedestal table. I feel adding too much navy will only enhance the yellowness of it. The rest of the condo (other side of the kitchen) is going to be in more sea-glass and sand tones, rather than "Ahoy Matey" red-white-and-blue. More beachy than boaty.

You could just paint your table and chairs a driftwood color, put some seaglass colored cushions on the seats and frame your nautical prints and hang a grouping of them on the wall. Ikea sells well priced frames in varying sizes. You may want to paint your wall a more sandy color to detract from the yellowness and add some seaglass accents to the area.

I hadn't considered a driftwood color. Hmmmm. Repainting ain't gonna happen. 1. Husband is color-phobic. 2. It is already painted. Period. End of story (he sez). Whole 1st floor is SW Irish cream. Maybe sneak some color into powder room!

You can get away from having to paint the walls with colorful art, updating the table, adding window treatments and a rug under the table. I like the idea of framing the nautical prints to make a grouping - that would really add color to the wall!

I don't recommend the navy paint for the table top. Even though you have a sprayer, unless you add multiple layers and then finish it with a top shelf polyurethane the blue will pick up ever nick and scratch. While I cannot see the base I would suggest going all white on the table top and base. Choosing a soft gray or blue gray for the chairs and then you can bring in navy seat cushions. Since you need some za-za on the walls why not take those nautical charts and have them framed and put them on the wall to the right of the windows. You could also consider hitting an antique market in your area and look for an interesting light fixture to hang down over the table. Get rid of the blinds and instead install up/down shades They mount on the base (sill or mid way and you can lower or raise them but the area needs more lights.

If you have $$ to put in then why not build a long window seat and create a breakfast nook with storage underneath. You can do the base in white with some panel moulding (like a ship) and then put a blue and white or turquoise and white ikat seat cushion. Then get a longer table for the space and the interesting light fixture and put the charts up on the wall. You can build the seat with a shelf in back so you can add things like a nautilus (zGallerie has a great one made of resin that is big and commands attention) and then you can fill glass jars with sand and put a small display of books from the places you have been to.

No time to read other comments right now, so hope not repeating! I am thinking that a Compass Rose on the table top would be interesting. Then you could have your charts framed for your wall.

Oh hubby, hubby, hubby. So many of them get in the way of good design ideas. ;)

You've got some great solutions here until you have a bargaining chip (say around football or bbq season) to trade-in for getting a new table. :)

How about if you painted the cabinets the sandy color you suggested. It will lighten the kitchen area as well. Are you going to do the back splash in sea-glass? if so, then you can have that blue-green sea color on the wall where you would put the nautical charts. You can have the blue green in horizontal stripes on that one wall as a feature wall and display your charts in groupings in different frames as suggested by others. I do like the idea of having a bench under the window and getting a slightly longer table. I would also bring in more light - it needs to be well lit. The up/down shades would work well and have two stationary panels on either side of the window. If you are not thinking of changing out your table - I would paint the table black and the chairs a blue gray colors with coordinating seat cushions. Canvas white panels as suggested above.
That should give a punch of color against the beige.
