I hope you get tons of answers here. I wanted to prune my big jade pot earlier so I resorted to YouTube and didn't find the answers I needed. I basically wanted to know WHERE to cut etc. it's similar to what you're wondering.. What will happen if I cut here vs here, etc.

NO, you must remove the entire branch. And you may not necessarily get two new branches. The same can be done by plucking out new growth at the end of a branch.

I use an exacto blade to cut the thicker stems, and pinch the smaller, softer ones. I have learned to not be judicious in my pruning. If you prune too lightly, and only at the ends of etiolated branches you'll just end up with small weak new growth that'll make those long branches droop even more.

These two potted together were very long etioliated branches cut from my big mama jade, grown long and etioliated themselves.

I separated and chopped them way down

And 2.5 weeks later, they are growing nicely! First pic shows the scab from the cut stump that just fell off. I don't know why I enjoy that so much :O

I will also make a point of letting you know I am one of the lesser-experienced members here :) I'm experimenting with my plethora of jade cuttings; learning about pruning and pinching to grow different shapes, get thicker trunks and bushier plants etc.

I have also noticed that when you prune you can expect the branches to come out from the ends where the last leaves were. Does that make sense? So, if you cut a branch, between two sets of leaves, and the ones below are at 12 o'clock and 6 o'clock, you would expect the branches to grow out at approximately 3 and 9 o'clock. Not sure if this is a solid rule, but it is something I've noticed.
