Cold living room

How do I warm this room up so it's more inviting. We just moved in so it still feels very bare and cold. I know I should get a rug but what kind and light fixtures too. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

A couple of thoughts:
-switch the sofa that is against the windows with the pair of chairs.
- place the round side table between the chairs.
-as you mentioned you need a rug (it seems you aren't afraid of color so I would pick something fun!)
-you may need a larger coffee table--- possible wood (once you get a rug)
-this seems like a relatively casual space, so maybe a couple of poufs on the Side of the coffee table where there is no seating
- I would look for a tripod floor lamp for the space that is to the right closest to the window (from the perspective of this photo)
-also some art on the walls--- again, have fun with color.

Warm colors will warm the room up! I suggest throw pillows and a rug with warm colors like orange, yellow, and red! You can either buy a couple more floor lamps or table lamps.

I think a flowery, relaxed and informal designed attention getting rug would be really nice. Does something like the attached resonate with you?

The chairs at the window so that you can see through instead of blocking the view and it would break up the sofas. No curtains that would take away from the modern feel of the windows and brick on the walls. A rug with a minimal design pattern and definitely replace the light fixture. It seems by the picture that everything is stuffed in at the end of the room so pull it more to the center if possible.

I love the light fixtures Blenheim has posted -- you definitely need more oomph in that respect, even though your present light is pleasant. It's just not enough. I definitely think you want somethng at the windows, but nothing that disturbs the open feel -- sheers, perhaps, or grass blinds hung so that you can lift them completely above the windows? Texture always helps to warm a room up. I'd stay neutral on the rug -- see Blenheim's inspiration pics -- but look for a really comfortable texture, something that encourages you to kick off your shoes.

Do you love your torchiere? I always think they're a bit aloof feeling. I love this lamp, which is decidedly cool and modern, but bends over obligingly to give you light for reading. I think it's neutral enough not to fight with a more ornamental central light.

Lovely space!! I think a rug will make a huge difference in the warmth factor. If it were my space I would go for a fairly subdued neutral rug with maybe a subtle pattern, but nothing too splashy. Your sofas, pillows and art will add enough interest and colour!

I also think I would frame the art to give it a bit more impact. And, um, I would ditch the...lizard? Iguana? Dunno what it is but to me it is just distracting, and not in a good way.

I love your wood floors I can not imagine covering with a an area rug, but most suggested that. I suggest changing the lights, switch chairs with sofa, and a larger brighter artwork that picks out the yellow, reds of your pillows would be a good start.

That's a great room! I think the coffee table, light and floor lamp are too small in scale for the room. You could go with two rectangular coffee tables and a large light fixture as in photo below.
