I agree with Patricia on the rug. I hear that some jute or sisal rugs hold up well to sand/ look beachy. I love the chairs and, like Patricia, I would ditch the skirts on the couches if reupholstered, but probably just buy new couches when there.

Cost to reupholster is almost as expensive as new depending on where you have it done. Yours look in great condition and are neutral. Have you purchased your new home yet? They might work there as well. You can lighten the look with fun patterned pillows and lighter walls. Changing out your accessories and ART to reflect an Ernest Hemmingway, Naval Captain style. No to all of the very formal gold candelabras and Grecian table lamps . Do nothing until you have the new house. You can mix your more formal style with a bit of beach very easily..... It is the paint and rug that make the room so dark. I think the color of your sofas is perfect for Florida. BTW, your room is lovely and I especially love the wall color.

I agree with leaving the sofas alone! You can update them without going to the expense of having them reupholstered with pillows and throws. Once you move, I would go with light colored walls and rugs, which will help a lot!

In my opinion, it is worth it to reupholster (if your budget allows) a well made piece of furniture that you really like. I would wait until you've moved in to your new home before making any decisions though.
