Canning apricots with rust spots on skin

My husband and I have been dealing with this rusty colored growth on the skins of our apricots. I tried canning them without the skins but that wasn't a success. In the past I just turned them into pulp and either made jam or froze the pulp - but we don't really eat a lot jam and so I'd really like to be able to can and dehydrate them. . Any suggestions? Can I just scrape off the rust?

Can I ask why that didn't work since peels removed is the normal method for canning them? Easy to do with boiling water/ice dip method.

But I guess if you don't want them peeled then all you can do is take a soft scrub brush to them and hope to get all of it removed.

I thought the peels had to be left on. When I tried canning them before, without the peels, the looks all stringy. They didn't stay together like my canned peaches and pears. But, maybe I should try again. Thanks.

How did you peel them? Sounds like they may have been over ripe or too long in the boiling water.

You're probably right, Dave. I've only been can I g did a few years. I will definitely pick the apricots before they get too ripe and try again. Thanks for your help- my husband and I are excited to have some canned.
