Thanks, I have brown turkey and Chicago fig which have figs starting, plus I think I had some breba still unripe on the Chicago hardy.

I also have latarulla, phf, and desert king with nary a fig in sight. I have had all of these since last season and they are decent size but have never set any fruit.

Could they still do so this season? How long do they usually take to ripen? Thank you!

My brown turkey tree is loaded with Figs, but they will not ripen till late Aug in my area. I have a few others but need to check...I've not walked out there lately. I don't pamper them the way I do the citrus ;-)

Here, in Southern California, some varieties have started main harvests. Celeste is one. Also Osborne. Most of my others won't ripen till August - Sept. I think if you are far north like the OP, you almost need a greenhouse to generate the warmth figs need to ripen.

Two of my trees do not have figs...they are still young and I do wonder if they are getting enough light. Another that is battling my raspberry bushes has a few, nowhere near ripe...but my big one - a brown turkey, is loaded.

Ok good to know, yes I thought I would have to finish ripening in my greenhouse or inside. I was just wondering if the fact that no figs have shown up by now on some of my trees means that they won't bear this season. Maybe I have another couple week window for that.

I am not sure if they will fruit or not. They may still, but they will definitely need to ripen indoors. I hope this year we have enough Figs that we will not lose all of them to the squirrels. Against advice, I am feeding them dried corn cobs to keep them busy. So far, they have left my apples pretty much alone, and I've not lost any figs....but they are not ripe yet.

Look at all those figs, gorgeous! Yeah, if yours are that far along then mine will probably skip this year. That's ok, they are still small trees and I have a couple with fruit so I will be satisfied. For now :).

Be patient. I have found my figs to be very fast growers. I have a feeling that once yours start to grow and produce, you will have figs coming out of your ears...then we can swap recipes! I have made a brandied fig jam that is to die for!

And luckily no problems with birds... yet anyway, there are certainly millions around and we do have feeders too.

Now that jam sounds amazing! Looking forward to it!

Here is a new tree I got this season. It has to be 6 feet tall, can you believe it was $35??? I had to grab it obviously. It is setting figs! Brown turkey.

Nice find Hobby!! Is that pot big enough for such a big tree?? Do you pot them in the 5-1-1 mix also? I am lucky mine are in the ground...I basically neglect them. In the beginning of the spring, I had my son spread what I took out of my chicken coop because I could not fit it in the compost bin. I know it's supposed to "cook" for a while, but it was mixed with shavings. They were fine. Other than that, I have done nothing. I figure they are in the ground....they get enough nutrition ;-)

The one I took the picture of this morning is a brown turkey. They grow well around here. I know a lady who has one as tall as her house!

Thanks Laura, it has actually grown a lot since I got it already, I will definitely repot next season but because my winters are so long and everyone has to be inside I like a smaller pot so there is less chance of wet boggy soil rotting the roots. I used a modified mix, soil, perlite, wood chips etc, for figs it seems to work pretty well, citrus not so much :).

I purchased 3 figs from fast growing trees this year. One tree is producing figs ! I did not expect to get any this year. I planted with chicken manure, hay and good soil. I feed them a tea made from duck droppings. Seems to be working. Zone 6 A
