Back inna' day, if you went out the door to go to the fabric store with the intention to bring home a length of chambray, that is exactly what you would end up doing. Nowadays, you will have to search high and low to find a traditional piece of chambray on the bolt. It used to be a solid staple of the store and it was a mid priced fabric.

It is much harder to find. It used to be sold as part of the "mens shirtings" group of fabrics. Yes, that is what the display signs used to say. Can you imagine that signage in Joanns today?
