I started out woth three carambola, a Bell, Kajang, and Kari.

After 7 or 8 seasons I found that they are very variable year to year.

One year the Kajang was superior, and every year one of the three was better than the rest.

Of the three I feel the Kari summer crop is the best. The juice freezes great for when citrus and carambola are not in season.

If you're going to juice them, just keep in mind that they are pretty high in Oxalic acid.

maybe you can help me too. i have a Kari, and it didnt flower until mid-July (now - this year anyway)

- i dont remember when exactly it flowered last year, but the fruit stayed on all winter long and didnt ripen till spring. then, they tasted pretty bad. i thinjk frost damaged the fruit and then they started to rot. we only had 1 day of frost (32F for a few hours) but i guess it was enough to damage them.

if this happens every year, the tree will be worthless to me.

i am wondering if a different variety will flower at a different time and not cause me as much problems ?

Yeah, my Kari and Kajang bloomed late too, odd because they usually give me 2 crops per year.

In my experience with my 3 varieties they always bloomed at the same time and the winter crop is generally not so good.

It sounds like your tree isn't very old. I think if this is the case that the fruits get better when the tree is more established.
