I think matching curtains throughout in a faux silk would be great. I'd either use a very subtle touch of colour (but I haven't been able to find any of those on a quick look) or a simple and elegant pattern. I like these.

Definitely drapes for a more dressy look. I like Rina's choice a lot but since there's no other color that I can see it might be interesting to use drapes with color.

Thanks for the comments! I am a little afraid of using color on the drapes since they are so permanent... On the little windows, do you think that having one panel on the side would be okay? There isn't enough space to put panels on both sides of the window.

Definitely one panel on the sides of the small windows will be okay. I figured you weren't into leaping into strong colour, which is why I suggested keeping it subtle. Silk -- and therefore, I hope, faux silk -- takes subtle colours very well. Think of the areas between the primaries, and at an almost pastel level. Not quite, because the colour needs to balance the strength of the blacks.

Looking at the top picture, it seems there is space for art to the right -- you might consider looking for something you love to look at to hang on that wall, and then choosing your colour from its colours.

Thanks, this is very helpful! Everything looks darker in the picture since there was light coming in from the wrong angle when I took them. The table is actually a lighter gray. I was thinking the same thing about the art. I might get something with blue in it and use that as the accent color.

I definitely agree that drapery would add a formal touch to the room. Belgian flax linen drapery is great for a formal dining room because of its structure.

I did see that you were thinking of adding blue accents to the room; we recently launched a collection of colored drapery, including a light blue linen.

The washed linen collection is lighter than the Belgian Flax linen but still have great structure for a formal dining room.

Both rooms would like beautiful with roman or silhouette shades. I would suggest doing a beautiful valance over top if you want to add color or a pattern to it. Here are some examples ideas:

This is a room we did recently with Lafyette tenera shades which is the same a the silhouette. With custom cornice board over them.

This is a display we have in our showroom. You could also do this, it's a sheer vertical with a beautiful top treatment. This one is a Lafyette sheer vertical but Hunter Douglas and Graber makes them as well.

Yes, yes - drapery is a must in this room, especially if you want it to look elegant. I recommend custom drapery - you can find great fabricators who are reasonable and there are beautiful fabric options that don't cost a ridiculous amount of money.

Is there a sconce next to the small window? IMHO these windows were born for silhouette coverings ;-) especially since they are different sizes. Other treatments can be added as the rooms get decorated with art etc. for an elegant layered look.

Yes there is a sconce on each side but the one on the right allows for enough space for drapes

What a beautiful home, those windows are gorgeous. I think it would be appropriate to keep them open, you have a good view and can let the natural light in. A good option is drapery panels. Drapes are a great way to add color and texture to your home and get privacy when you want it.

I think you have the ideal setting for sheers....something that lends ambiance rather than a serious statement..it softens..does not interfere with the light or view...and can be a little more interesting by selecting an organic linen sheer with a little texture ..or a pale colors with a tonal pattern such as dots..stripes ...or embroidery ..tone on tone ...using really cool curtain rods with interesting finials and floor to ceiling sheers the result will be subtle but effective

Hi Ipek, I also think some sheer linens would be great to add a subtle softness to the room and create a nice cozy feel. Try some of the White Sheer Linens. I would strongly recommend NOT to go with any patterns or prints though, because with patterns and prints they would go out of trends in a few months or at most a year and since these windows are quite significant in the room you don't want to be restricted with a specific pattern for a long time. Solid neutrals should be the way to go.
