Question about shade gardening and Irish moss

I have a Norwegian Maple tree that has a dense leaf canopy. It is impossible to grow a lawn. What do you think about planting Irish Moss? Will I be able to contain the moss? I have a lawn in the sunny parts of the yard. Thank you. Laura
