Long narrow room layout dilemmas...

Hello,

Please excuse the mess! We just moved in. I am trying to layout\decorate this room. We want to use the area off of the kitchen as our dining area and the front half as an oversized family room. Issues thus far: we do not want tv over fire place, tv is too wide for area between the front windows, we want to buy new furniture but struggling with what to buy. I would love any design/layout ideas. The entire area from front to back is 38 ft long by 10 ft wide.

Your options are limited by your space as you know. If you are shopping consider a long, sleek design so as not to overwhelm the narrow space and use the Fireplace as your focal point. See the sofa below. I would put this across from the fireplace. I would place my TV above the fireplace in this situation. Keep the furniture in both the living and dining room light so as to contrast with the dark floor.

What does the wall across from the fireplace look like?

It appears that the chandy hangs above the sofa and that there's some other kind of ceiling fixture nearer the two windows, plus pot lights, but maybe only in the dining end. Can you draw out a rough floor plan and show where the lighting actually is? We also need more pix. We need to see what's opposite the fireplace and the wall opposite the kitchen.

Oh my lord, please don't consider a sectional sofa! Your room is very narrow.

Buy a small sofa and and place it opposite the fireplace. Purchase a chair (or 2) alongside the fireplace.

Can't you use that fireplace for your tv and move the whole room down. Smaller couch and a couple of chairs
