Hi Edith- this would be a question best answered by your contractor, but my understanding is that yes, there would need to be a bit of a slope, to keep the rest of the bathroom floor dry. This can usually be done fairly easily if you're taking the existing fixtures out, as they just build up the sub-floor, and add small or mosaic tile to accommodate the slope.
