Hedge Leaves are Turing Brown

Some of the leaves on my hedges are turning brown and sticking to the branches. This happened last year around the same time and I thought it had to do with the large amount of water we had gotten but its happening again. They sprouted new leaves after and are thick and beautiful in the spring time. Can anyone please tell me what this is and how I can prevent it. I don't know the name of the plant but we have lived her several years and this didn't happen before. The dried leaves are hard to get off and I have to pick each branch off by hand. Thanks for the help.

There seems to be this cottony stuff keeping the leaves on the bush. I'm in central NE and its been hot this year 85-95. I do have lawn sprinklers.

It might be Archips cerasivorana, called the Ugly-nest Caterpillar. Cotoneaster is one of the hosts.

Could also be cotoneaster webworm, Athrips rancidella. Pretty common affliction for these shrubs.

again .. if its a bug.. you ought to be able to find it ... to confirm such ...

if you dont find it during the day ... go look at dusk or after dark ... many commute from home to the feast.. lol ...

once you ID it.. it should be rather simple to remedy it ... many of these soft bodied problems are extremely easy to kill ...

it is catepillar webs, hose it down really good with the water hose every few days. If that doesn't work dilute some dawn dish detergent in a spray bottle and spray the hedge. Note: you will have to re-spray with the soap after rain
