I'd pain the door either a bold green or blue. Pain the porch swing the same color and repeat that color to the right of your door with a big chair or two. Then add complimentary colors in your garden via annuals and perennials. You are lucky to have a nice neutral beginning! Good luck.

Restore the quality of your front hedge by pruning it by half. It is too 'leggy' and should be pruned back to thicken the appearance.

Add serpentine beds of perennials around the home. so the plants come back year after year.

I'd probably paint the front door black or a color of your choice. Something that works with your future landscaping plans.

I was considering taking out the hedge in front of the porch. It does not seem to add anything to the curb appeal

I agree with taking the hedge out! I also do not believe they add curb appeal like flowers and pretty bushes like burning bushes. Adding additional flower beds that curve along the walkway would add a lot of curb appeal!

Thanks for all the comments. We have not moved in yet. The heart wreath is the owners. There are lights in the porch "ceiling" I am actually thinking of going really bold with an orange front door, orange adirondack chairs and a porch swing cushion in a bold pattern.

Go bold with the door. If you paint it orange and don't like it then it's an easy fix to paint it another color. I think the existing shrubs are past keeping. They are very woody and if you cut them back then there is really nothing left but wood. I would stick with lower growing dwarf species so they don't grow and block the front of the house like the existing ones are. Euonymus, burning bushes are a fast growing species. Also some areas have classified them as an invasive and will not allow them.

Keep the house white and add the color with your door, chairs and landscaping.

My one suggestion would be to figure out what look or 'feel' you want the house to have before you touch anything.
Certain colors will convey a different style.
Do you want to stick with something classic?
Rustic? Modern?
What ideas/colors excite and inspire you the most on other houses?
Personally- I love this house! It has a lot of charm and even more potential. I would paint the door a fun color(not necessarily too bright or loud)
I would rip out the hedges and start fresh.
Sometimes starting over is easier than working around something.

We work on a budget, but I have always gotten professional landscaping design assistance. I have never regretted it.

After landscaping has reached twenty or more years (and sometimes before) it needs to be replaced. Cutting it back just won't improve it.
You have a pretty home and I especially like the curved driveway . New landscaping will be the curb appeal you are seeking.
