The canopy kit allows you to mount directly to a ceiling box. Although the canopy socket does not swivel, the cloth covered cord is flexible and does allow for sloped ceiling mounting applications.

Could you send picture where the pulley is utilized? And would 3 lights be sufficient over a 12' island?

Debbie, please see attached photo of one client's use of the pulley kit.

There is no rule for island lighting but given the product in question, I would suggest 3 lights.
