Your plant sounds good to me. But the wire cloth is not the right material for making cage, unless the grids/opening are are at least 3" square so that you can reach in to prune, pick tomatoes.

Another thing is that you would need to anchor the cages to something like rebar stakes.

I agree, I am able to cut out openings. Been playing around with setups, the 5ft size cloth I believe might have bigger openings than 2 x 4, I can't really splurge on a roll of CRW. All cages will be achored securely

Use a free-draining potting mix. I use about 25% cactus mix...which really lightens the mix up. Putting big plants in those pots is doable...but you will be watering every day...and fertilizing every week (when they get size). good luck PS Consider some dwarf project tomatoes in there. That is exactly what I put my dwarfs in...and it is perfect.

I'm trying out the 511 mix on 6 of my containers and the other 3 will be a mix of my compost, fine bark, and perlite. I have an automated drip system that I plan on using. Also I'm not going organic with fertilizer as I am going to be using General Hydroponics 3 part series as well as the Nova bloom during flowering. I hope to set up a fertilizer injection system as well. I'm a 1st time gardener who saw decent results this spring. I used 5 gallon buckets and learned a lot, I actually still have 4 of my plants that have reached 9ft in height(one of them just started to set fruit again). I'm having lots of fun and thank this forum for all the advice

What do you think would be better cages or a horizontal/diagonal trellis running the length of the row? I also plan to put down a tarp underneath everything so no weeds or bugs can cause any issues. The space is south facing (rows run east to west)and gets about the most sunlight possible in my yard, definitely more than 8hrs
