Help us choose a wood floor, please!

the Hubs and I can't decide on a wood floor. I want lighter flooring because there are only two windows, he wants...well, what he wants! Whatever! Haha! I'm sending the pix from our south wall which includes a Chicago brick fireplace, small window and back door. Our walls are light gray, trim is white, but we are open to color change. We have a tall arched ceiling. The home is a '70 style brick ranch. Please help! Thank you!

I like the one on the far left and 4&5 from the left. Congrats on your new floors!

I like the second from the left. I think it's the lightest color of all of the selections.

I think the lightest one to the far right is best if you're trying to bring in more light to the room. Will contrast nicely with the fireplace.

We just installed 5th from left in our family room, kitchen/dining room, and living room. Love it more everyday! Your far left was our #2 choice!

I agree with @Cancork Floor Inc. Second from left. It looks like it matches your fireplace mantel, so if you like your mantle, you will like the floor.

It's a light, yet warm color and from the photos, it appears to have a nice caramel color, which will lighten your room.

I agree with @Cancork Floor Inc. kiffkat on number TWO...since it goes with your mantel it will look stunning in there!

Here is the vote tally so far:

    1. Four

    2. Five

    3. None

    4. Eight

    5. Six

    6. None

    7. None

    8. One

    My rational:

    • 1 & 6 & 7 -Dark shows every speck of dust.

    • Number 8 might look pretty jarring.

    • Your room has warm tones, so the boards numbered 2, 3, 4, 5 are probably better for your space.

    • 3 is pretty reddish, if you like reds then it would be a nice choice as it plays nicely with the bricks, looks best with the side table.

    • 4 a little dark but a good tone and would look nice, might visually contract, but good grounding, does not go well with black couch

    • 5 a little gray, but goes with your room well, might visually expand verses ground, but looks okay with black couch

    • 2 warm but light and looks great with existing woods and furniture

Narrow the field. Remove 3, 6, 7, and 8 and take another picture.

Many thanks to everyone who commented! I've really enjoyed reading each one! And, a big thanks to Rawketgirl for the tally and input! With the suggestions of a light color I took off to find a few samples of such. Here is a new pix with the three high scoring samples on the left. The other seven are lighter and I'm also seeing some with a red tint now that I have them at home. Would love any input of the new layout. We will definitely pick the winner from this line-up! Thanks, again, for all your great help!

    2, 4 or 5 from the left

    3rd from the left

Wow you just made this a lot harder!

    4 or 10, matching mantel.

3 and 5 are my favorites

Use the 5th one in from left. It blends the best & is light enough to brighten room. Goes great w/fireplace.

Do you have animals? Dog? Color of dog hair. We have a white dog and the hair blends right into the lighter oak color floor but if we had dark it would show up much more. Not to say I do not clean but darker wood floors truly show every speck of dirt/dust.

Don't pick yellow undertones or dark one. Large planks are so much nicer. From your original list I like 5 from the left. We have similar floor and it looks amazing

also get more then one planks. Make sure it is not too much various with colors.

I agree with sofikbr that when you have narrowed it down to 2-3 choices, get more planks to see what to expect with varied color.

Another consideration in choosing color along with fireplace masonry match is furniture. I have come to realize that if you have a certain desire for a wood floor color & tone , you have chosen that same tone in wood tone furniture.

If you plan to buy new furniture, disregard my last paragraph.

Agree on ordering more of sample when we have narrowed down the choices, we ordered a case of each of our final two. I did not do this with bathroom tile and tile was totally different than just the one tile sample. I do not thing floor and furniture have to match. I don't even think all furniture should match.

Number 4 from your original pics.
