They look pretty nice. To update I would put a beefed uptop and wider crown moulding. On the fireplace I would replace the brick with some split face stone or a pretty tile.

The area itself looks pretty good, start redecorating the mantle. Take off the candles, you would not light them under the tv anyway. The vases/arrangements on each end are too tall. Play around with things in the shelves.

I like it just the way it is. But you do need to change the top,of the mantel. Too many small items and they don't seem to have any relationship to each other.

I would suggest removing everything from top of mantel and hanging a piece of colorful artwork in each space. The artwork on left almost looks like another tv screen. If tv equipment can't be moved than I would suggest having doors made to enclose both spaces. Also think about replacing the red tile below fireplace, perhaps with a dark grey.

Remove everything and post another picture? Too many little things. You can drill holes in the back left corner of the cabinet and drop all those cords down the back instead of over the edge. Maybe get longer tv cables and run them straight down in one spot instead of the current swag.

I would increase the volume of the mantel and door the cabinets. Lower the TV to 5" above the mantel and do as suggested to hide the cords. Clear off the clutter and limit the number of photos to a grouping of three in different sizes layered on a table top. Use art or one large decor piece on the cabinets each side of the FP.

I would remove all the small shelves and replace them with a single thicker shelf on each side. I'd also remove most the decorative items to simplify the look. Overall it already looks good.

I absolutely love your fireplace, and it seems to go well with your decor, so I hope you don't mess with that. Agree with above posters that the decorations could use some cleaning up.

I like what you have sort of. Too much stuff that could probably be spread around other areas of your home. Try removing all the top stuff and leave everything else and see if that is better..... I agree with other comments about the cluttered feeling on the top top shelves....this pic below is a suggestion to frame out the TV and make it the center piece with the fireplace in the room......could be very effective.

Also a more balance look could be achieved by cleaning off the entire top shelf all the way across and then adding a pair of large items to go on either side of the TV on the wall. Maybe matching wreaths, wooden or metal artifacts, large tiles, baskets, textiles pulled tight on a square frame, large serving platter or plates, trays,etc. Not mirror or art as they are so expected.
