found cement slab under basement floor.

Hi. I just bough a house and the basement floor was badly leveled with 2x4's and shims covered in plywood and carpet. After removing a section, I discovered what seems to be a cement slab (about 2'x4'x3") that seems to be a cover for something. always very humid in the basement. Anyone know what this might be? Thanks
