Pond Eco help needed

Dear Green gardeners,

i have a thriving pond. Lots of birds lovely crystal clear water and pond life but too much duckweed on the surface. Underneath the water is clear and cool and supporting all sorts of life including frogs and newts. I don't want to do anything chemical or unnatural to control duckweed. My question is is it ok to just clear it out every so often off the surface or will it kill others creatures if I ignore it ?
