Iris shoots from a flower stalk

While passing by an Iris bed that had already flowered, I noticed a shoot off of a flower stalk. It even had tiny roots protruding from the bottom. It certainly looked bizarre to me. Has anyone here noticed this kind of shoot from the flower stalk? I cut the flower stalk just about an inch below the joint and planted it indoors in a pot and it seems to be growing well. I gave it a tug and it didn't budge, so it has rooted well.

I've heard of daylilies doing this. Proliferations. That looks like an entire new plant growing off the old bloom stalk. Thanks.

What may have happened..is....This looks like a vey old bed of iris and has been untouched for quite sometime. Once when it flowered it got pollenated and formed a large bulbous seed pod that would either die off or fall to the ground, (This is how new colours are formed by growers) maybe...it actually didnt fall to the ground and just grew there?.?

Maybe it might be a different colour to the parent plant. Keep an eye on it take a picture of the parent when flowering next, and wait and see what you have.
