This is going to be a long post, so I'll try to break it up. Let's start with what you can do now. I think you need to edit down the furniture and the plants. So with that said...remove the following:
1. All the plants.
2. The barstools and high table by stairs.
3. Console table by window.
4. The white chair.
5. Large art piece over the tv.
6. Love seat.
Add:
1. New rug turned the other direction.
2. Larger entertainment center.
3. Two armchairs.
4. Round ottoman.
5. Drapery panels.
6. End table and lamp.
7. New furniture layout.

As far as a furniture arrangement, see new layout. Now you won't have to turn your head to watch tv and the sofa will no longer block the window. Check out any consignment or thrift stores in your area. They are great resources for furniture.

As far as color scheme, I took some cues from your print that has the ladies carrying the pots on the heads.
1. Tribal style area rug with brighter colors.
2. Gold or light gold sofa but something different like the ones show in inspiration board.
3. Wood arms chairs. So you can see through them. Makes the room more open.
4. Woven, wood topped coffee table. Add some visual interest and texture.
5. Heavier weight window panel with some texture to them.
6. Would love to see the print I referred to earlier on the wall where the clock is now.
7. Maybe one tall plant on the center window and something small on the coffee table. Then the corn leaf plant on the end of the sofa.
8. Replace ceiling fan with large diameter drum shade pendant that hangs so the bottom it at the same height as the bottom of your stair landing bridge. Gives off much better light and put on a dimmer switch.

I agree that you need a taller and bigger entertainment center, I would like to see the couches in an L formation, the longer one as is by the window and the shorter one with the table behind it running from the window inwards. One of your plants on top the gives you a place to drop keys etc. Keep the rug
