WHAT. Where is this?

I am in Texas. It's a very small nursery in a small town close to my small town lol.

Virginia, yes that's the only one I got lol. I really wasn't going to get any until I saw she had CS, i normally don't plant new roses in August because it's so hot here but I am putting CS in a pot so I can keep her shaded if she needs it by moving her around and I can keep her watered well. And I also bought a Texas Star. I plan on returning to the same nursery in the spring and scoop up a few she has that is on my list.

First, congrats on that find. That is my what's-not-to-like? rose that is a happy, healthy and willing, not to mention really pretty and fragrant, little bloomer. You'll love it. It's one of the few roses that I've considered getting a second one.

Next, do you think the nursery owner might be convinced to relocate to a really small town in Tennessee?

Ken glad to hear Clo is such a good rose for you, I have been in love with her from the first time I saw a pic of her so very excited to have her, I have a feeling she won't be my last. And I think if the nursery owner relocated out of state there would be a riot LOL.

Two things to keep in mind. Clo (I love the nickname!) is a BIG ONE--that pot won't hold her for long.

Mine is a couple years old and has had only ONE good bloom so far (it was lovely)--occasional scattered bloom otherwise.

I put mine off by the property line where she has little competition. Put in two fairly large trellis side-by-side for her to expand her super long canes over--and she has already about overgrown that set up. I plan the let her sprawl kinda like a big rambler over there where she has plenty of room to sprawl to her heart's content.

Kate thanks for letting me know how big she can get, ARE has her listed in the roses for containers section and several people have said she does well in a pot so I thought I would give it a go. I don't have the climbing version, but if she gets to big for pot I can put her in the ground. I started calling her Clo because I mess the pronunciation up with my Texas accent lol. I call SDLM, Sally Mae for the same reason. :).

Oooh Ann that is a great pic! She looks so scrumptious lol. It's pics like that that stole my heart and made me want her so much. Thanks for sharing your Clo with me :). I have mine all potted up and she is a happy girl, can't wait to see my first bloom!

Well I am excited to report that my Clo is growing like gang busters in her pot and has bloomed several times so far. Her blooms are pale pink fading to white and I can't wait until the spring to see her coloring in the cooler spring weather, I hope they are as pretty as Anne's in the above picture. I am very pleased with her vigourous growth and so far no black spot. I feel certain she is going to need a bigger pot soon. I think I need to add a few in the ground as well. I'll try to post some pics of her tomorrow.

She's such a great rose when the weather is hot and dry. Mine lives for August heat and seems to bask in a hot southwest exposure. It has stayed short for me but regularly throws up new canes that only get a couple feet tall and then branch into masses of blooms. It produces its largest flushes of blooms in the spring, but they usually ball terribly in the rain. But I grow her for late summer color when there is little risk of rain here...and she's rarely without some blooms on her. Here's a current shot with an aster who's a bit of a ham...

Dublinbay, I think you may have the climbing version. I have both and my pot pet is only about 4 feet. Here is my climber last spring. I only see the really pink ones in the fall/winter blossoms.

John and Thonotorose, your clotildes are beautiful! I don't think my blooms look like yours do. I know mine is young but now I'm wondering do I have the right rose. Here some pics, let me know what you think.

The blooms on my Clothilde sometimes look like yours. Mine tends to be lighter in the spring and early when the temperatures are cooler here. And then when the heat of late summer starts to bake it, the blooms look more like what I shared above. Your plant is still young, so you're probably not seeing the mature bloom form, yet, but they look recognizable as Clothilde to me.

John thanks so much for the reassurance that she does look like a young clotilde. i am anxious to see her spring blooms.

I am happy for you! I have a 3 years old clotilde in the garden, it's the same size as yours. it doesn't grow tall here, can't even be a ground cover......

I went to a local nursery yesterday, and I found a lot of bargains for $9.97 each (marked down from $29.97). 3 New Dawn, 3 White Dawn, 1 Pretty in Pink Eden, 1 JFK, 1 Pearly Gates, they were all in 3 gal pots. :-)

That's great Summersrythm, sounds like you got some good roses for a good deal. I love it when that happens :). I plan on getting a few more clotilde to put in the ground and hopefully will be able to go back to the same nursery where I got such a good deal on this Clo.

Love my Clotilde soupert!! both of mine are 4 years old, Bought from antique rose emporium. 1000’s of blooms, sublime smell, wish they had someplace to climb!!!

I've been growing it for many years and have never seen it send out a long, sprawly cane. The climbing version does. The regular version is very shrubby, densely branched, and tends to be a rounded plant here. It's tough and vigorous. I've planted it in tough spots where I thought other roses might not make it. It comes through in shade or dry, gravelly spots. Mine bloom in big flushes on and off till winter. I don't have a very good whole plant pic but you can see these two plants had a lot of blooms:
