Should I put shelves or something else on sides of painting?

I think if you would use a larger wall art.Add accent pillows and add a different rug to blend in with the space it will look great.

I think the painting should be lowered a few inches. Incorporate the colors from the painting by adding 2 throws and a few toss pillows. Pull the sectional away from the wall a few inches. Maybe a curtain panel on either side of the window to soften up the room? Really love the paint color!! What is it?

I too think long curtain panels will soften the room, lower the lovely wall art , it goes so well w/your paint....I like an uncluttered look. and would not add anything else, if you could find something else as smashing as your art in a wider size, you might try it....I like your lamp choice, but you may need a larger round lamp to more balance the sofa.......can't see the rest of your room, but so far I think you are on the right track...good luck

HI -- The ceiling would look nice with some T&G white washed wood or you could paint the beams a soft off black . Then replace the office blinds with a full wall of drapes . Rehang the painting more to the left and lower (6 inches above sofa back) then have some shelves no lower or higher than the picture OR get a much bigger painting, almost as long as the sofa and possibly (shallow)narrow . A much bigger area rug (get first ) one with lots of texture (sisal ) or something modern with colors ,and then some more toss pillows -maybe some with a pattern and an accent color -( taken from rug ?) -something lively like an orange or a fresh green. Bigger lamps -- tall bases in white frosted glass or white vase bases with wide and shallow shades. Pull your sofa a little more forward and away from the winddow wall. One of those Arch floor lamps would go nicely with your sofa style. Maybe one or two goat fur looking pillows or any fuax fur would add some fun interest.

@lefty47 I agree......I forgot about the window treatment. But I was thinking that the picture also need to go over to the left.I thought that if a larger picture was over the couch it wouldnt look empty on the side.Due to the large sectional. And the rug was a bit small. You need a color to bring out that black and make a wild factor when you enter the room.

You've got a lot of wall space over that sofa to use! Move the picture down a bit, and to the right or left, and get some other, simple but colorful smaller pieces to place asymmetrically -maybe something like this, but in complimentary colors: http://www.etsy.com/listing/113654530/grey-yellow-flower-burst-gerbera-daisies?ref=br_feed_16

You have good, strong colors in there, but could use a bit of pattern and texture. Window coverings in a classic print could go a long way!

thank u all for ur advice. I will def add new window treatments and i like the idea of adding the frames asymmetrically. I also was going to return the lamp because it does feel too small for the living room. What style pillows should I add and what should i put on my coffee table?

Riri0425 - I'd go with pillows in geometric designs, maybe 2 color - white + strong color, or light grey + strong color. The strong color could be one picked from the painting, to tie it together - maybe the gold? (I think it's gold, I can't see it too well :D)

On your coffee table, I agree with other commenters. Go with some grouped tall pieces. Don't get too matchy-matchy - do a variety of heights, widths, and shapes - maybe a tall, narrow white vase, a fatter, shorter turquoise glass one, maybe one in goldish tones (either metal or glass). Pull your colors together, but vary in shape and texture.

    Hi,
you've chosen a lovely colour for your walls. I agree wit the above commenters, your painting should be a bit lower.
If you get a much taller lamp beside the sofa, you can move the painting a bit to the right to get a nice balanced feel.
Add throw cushions to the sofa that have different textures and bolder colours that are also in the painting.

I'm not a lover of the office like shades that you have. If you could replace them with horizontal Venetian blinds, Roman shades (for a softer look) or bamboo woven or another kind of natural material shades and add a couple of nice decorative, lighter coloured accessories to your coffee table, the room will already feel much more inviting.

Nice paint color! As others have said already, lower the painting. Get a taller lamp/ different color, it doesn't stand out being the same color. How about adding pottery with tall bamboo sticks in the corner (left of the lamp), to add more height? Maybe add some green throw pillows to bring out the green in the painting. The ceiling beams are fantastic, would you consider painting espresso brown?

Also add other green elements, maybe something on the coffee table. I think changing the rug will help too, the blue on the walls is enough blue. If you add more blue, it should be something very small. I don't know what color rug though...white shag rug or cowhide.

Oh... and you know what always works well if you put accessories on a table? If you put them in a tray. It really adds something and keeps it from looking 'cluttered'.
