What is the length of this light fixture (from ceiling to bottom of light)? With the chains on top, what is the shortest length this light can be?

Hello,

The shortest the light can be is 28"including the canopy and one link of chain.

Would it be too big to have over a 6ft x 3.5 ft (72" x 42") island?

Hello,

The width of the item is perfect and proportional with it being half the size of your island at 36". You would need to consider the depth of of the item at 22" and how low you will hang it. If's it too low it can seem a little big but at the right height it could work. Again, upon installation its at your discretion how much chain to use.
