I have some that have been on the ground in the same spot for 10 years or more with no problems. I might not do that in a low spot where water collects or on clay soils with drainage issues, but here where we have sandy to silty loam - no issues.

I think this is the year it was planted^^^, it looks quite different now. If it's not raining, I'll go take a picture.

Al, that's adorable! I love the first year picture with the mushrooms. And man oh man have they grown!

I have some trees with some pretty aggressive root systems. Because of that I have to put my pots near them on bricks to create an air gap that the roots can't cross. Otherwise the trees invade the pots and outcompete the plants in them.

Good point. I've also wondered if I'll be able to salvage the hypertufa trough if the roots have made their way into the ground.
