Exposed electrical wiring trunking and exposed water and sanitary pipes in bathrooms seems to be a trend these days in Singapore. It can be benefitial to home owner to leave them exposed and not 'boxed in', as one does not have to budget for extra cabintry works and also in case of any issues in the future that need rectification.
