A sketch of the floor plan or some photos will be very helpful...otherwise it is almost impossible to know exactly what you are describing......

You are absolutely right. I do not have a floor plan..but here are two photos before our remodel that is currently underway. The hallway is approximately three feet wide... The room behind the two hanging pictures is a bathroom.

Structurally there isn't much we can do..but I am hoping for some ideas to make the entry more inviting.

I've searched all the design blogs and haven't seen anything that address a front door opening into a hallway. Thanks for any advice or help!!!

Here are some examples. A very narrow bench might work at 8" wide with a mirror or painting above. You might also want to paint that entry wall an accent color...

Be mindful not to hang a big mirror facing your front door, as a mirror facing the door (especially the front) will push the Chi, or Universal energy, away, thus is considered bad feng shui.
