An entryway table would help instead of the plants as you come in the door .they have narrow ones.. Then you have a place to put things down as you enter . A mirror over the table would look nice too. You can put a small plant on table also or whatever you like.. C

I would put a bench where the plant is with a mirror or painting above. Then on the big wall to the left of the door I would put a larger console that has a lamp and picture above. Add a rug near the door that stretches into the open space so that you define the entry without making it feel small or unimportant.

I think I'd look for a small setee of some sort to place at the corner of the area rug. Put a console table behind it to create a bit of a false wall between the entry area and the living area.
