Front Door Color?

Our new house in the FL panhandle is a light-ish brick with a taupe front door, garage door, & shutters. See picture attached. We want to paint the front door either a rich, dark teal or navy blue. My dilemmas are as follows: 1) Which color? 2) Is it ok to leave the shutters taupe but change the door color? 3) What about the garage door (which is also taupe)?

Teal front door would be great. Try test swatches right on door to find perfect color!

Leave garage door taupe to help it fade into background and put focus on the front door. Shutters could go either teal or taupe. I'd tend toward leaving them taupe as you have shutters only on one window so teal might throw things out of balance.

The rule of thumb is.....if you want to emphasize a feature, paint it a bright contrasting color. If you want it to blend in to the background, keep it neutral and non-contrasty.

Oh, & I forgot 1 other dilemma: semi-gloss or glossy paint?

Brand-new house --> door in excellent condition --> glossy. Cute house BTW. Can't wait to see some great subtropical plantings! Bougainvillea?

Black would be a more conventional choice for a front door.

I like blue doors with that color of brick...I would leave garage door taupe! Did u just buy? You look so happy! Congrats!

We decided on navy blue for the door and left everything taupe. We are so happy with the decision! This picture was obviously taken in fall so the plants are sad-looking.

Any recommendations for plants that grow well in direct sunlight in the FL panhandle region? We would like to really spruce up this area this spring. Also, anyone got any other ideas than pine straw? I am open to any & all suggestions to brighten up this area & our backyard as well!

Remove the shutters; here's why. With your brown trim, I think teal would look great for a non-conventional pop at the front door.

Yes, remove the shutters, they don't belong on that window (they aren't sized right). If you read the short article that decoenthusiaste posted above you will see that your home will actually look better without the shutters.

agree, remove the shutters, get a matching pots to use beside your door, go with the yellow one it adds an additional pop of color

Agree with ditching the shutters. I would also paint the sidelight trim the same color as the rest of the trim and get rid of the stark white. The front door itself would then be the focal point, not the white trim. Door color looks great!

More blue? Pots, bench, fence? (but only white, yellow, orange and red flowers)

I like the idea of teal\ blue ... goes well with the roof, red would be different too. Would keep the garage doors and shutters as they are.

I wouldn't paint the door navy or teal blue. They are cool colors. Your house colors are warm tones. I would paint it the same color as trim a dark brown or maybe even a brick red color which is also a warm tone and will look nice and make the door pop.(just sayin:)

I agree, take down the shutters. I would go black or a warm tone. Good luck:)

Another vote to lose the shutters. Leave the Garage door as it, Glossy teal or black for the front door. If Black, accent w/ black planters and perhaps a black little iron bench in the garden area; either along the garage wall or where the sidewalk to the door bends. :)

I would paint the white trim around the side windows of the front door the same taupe color. I noticed the white trim first and then the beautiful blue door.

Move the statue of the smiling woman to the left, off the sidewalk.

Love the navy- perfect. Sorry I can't help on the plantings.

Love...Love...Love the Navy Door!!! I think I would take the shutters off if it were me. It distracts from your beautiful door.
