Backsplash Near Peninsula or Not?

We are almost finished with our house remodel! One of the last decisions remaining is whether or not we want backsplash tile near the peninsula.

The rest of the kitchen backsplash is already done and we love it. I just have reservations about adding it on the peninsula wall since we do not have an upper cabinet to line it up with and I'm worried that the tile on the right of the window will look unfinished and break up the flow of the open concept room, but without the tile, that wall kinda looks unfinished.

Would love feedback! We need to make a decision asap. Below is the peninsula from 2 angles as well as a closer look at the backsplash that is already up in the rest of the kitchen. Thanks for your help!

Looks really nice! I would tile it and stop where you did on the right as you did on the left under the cabinet. They have finish pieces that should make it look finished. Have your tile dealer find you tiles to finish that side. I believe you are looking for bullnose.

Much food prep to happen there?

Higher tiles end naturally with stove hood. If you do there might be fairly level under window.... but last photo shows little area that would almost have to go to ceiling.... which stove doesn't ??

No tiles there. You don't need it. Think outside the box! Adding tiles there would look so prescriptive. Plus, you'll have the problem you described - where to end them. Leave it as it. It looks great!

My thought is always function. Will you be doing messy prep work in the area near the peninsula? If not, no need to tile. It actually looks refreshing without the tile there. I think we have become tile crazy on our walls!

It looks fine without the backsplash. However, if you do a lot of prep there, or if you have an espresso machine, do the backsplash. I have an espresso machine and have to be very careful about not splattering the untiled wall beside it.

    Yes, backsplash.

I kind of like it without tile. However I know in my kitchen, that space gets heavy use and a backsplash is nice to have. I have lifted my immersion blender out too far a few times and whoopsy I am cleaning the wall off. I use my juicer and my kitchen aid there as well so the tile is easy to clean.

Sometimes it is hard to visualize and see what the balance will look like. Here are 8 different versions.

    1.

    2.

    3.

    4.

    5.

    6.

    7.

    8.

I think I like number 5 the best it kind of ties the two windows together. If you hang something like a picture, chalkboard, or a clock above the tile on the right of the peninsula window it will look like it is in the kitchen. Nice kitchen by the way!

    No backsplash

Five is the only appropriate application.

You must be so thrilled. Very nicely done.

    (I vote no tile)

    Tile. As number 5.

I would tile to bring the two sides of the kitchen together into one larger space.

#5 or no tile. Your kitchen is very beautiful!

I don’t see the need for backsplash where there is no water in the space .

hey Shelby Troxell! Beautiful kitchen! I'm in a similar dilemma too and would love to hear which option you went with and whether you still like it? Would you do things differently in hindsight?
