Anchoring a "frame garage"

Hi all,

I'm putting up a frame garage with the help of a neighbor. From my fairly extensive research, the number one complaint about them (almost every model I've looked at) is the anchor system being inadequate. I'm thinking of anchoring the poles in cement. In other words, instead of just driving the poles into the ground, digging holes in the ground and filling them with cement and then driving the poles into said holes. I hope I'm explaining this correctly. Is this a good idea? If so, is this a DIY project? (Neighbor is pretty handy.) What kind of cement would you recommend?

You can simply dig holes and use redi-mix concrete in bags - any big box store.

A lot more work would be to dig, and pour a footing, and then a course or two of cement block. This would get the garage 'off the ground'. Then you fasten the metal poles to the cement block.

Once again, thank you, geoffrey_b! That's exactly what I was thinking; I just wanted to have someone with more experience confirm that it is a reasonable thing to do. Your option #2 would probably be better, but since my neighbor has kindly volunteered to do that project and also assemble my shed (I have arthritis and can't do it myself), I don't want to over-impose, so I'll go with option #1. Thanks! :-)
