Question: for the trellised pole beans do you plant on both sides of the trellis? I do and it works out fine. I do the same for sugar snaps and pea pods. There seems to be enough spacing with the trellis in the middle. This year I have pepper plants on either side of a single trellis in a bed about 4' wide. Peppers seem to be doing fine.

I'm in NH zone 5. I plant hardneck garlic in October. Scapes are harvested late June and then garlic is harvested in mid - late July. Another crop can follow.

I think your tomatoes are too close together but it may depend on the variety. I have Hog Heart and Opalka paste tomatoes planted maybe 2 1/2 - 3 feet apart and think they are a little too close. In another bed with 4 tomatoes and 6 pepper plants, one variety of tomato, a cherry is huge and leafy while another is small, producing a lot of tomatoes but a very skimpy plant. At the end of my trellised pole bean row, I stuck in a cherry tomato which is so big and heavy that the cage needed to be staked. This year I need to take notes as to which plants got big, which didn't and which were poor producers. I bought common tomato cages on sale so I could cage my peppers but I didn't have enough cages. Some didn't need a cage and others have fallen over without a cage. Cages used for tomatoes are larger and my favorite are made from concrete reinforcing mesh.

Have you been successful using teepees for peas? I grow mostly sugar snaps which can get very tall. I also have a problem with them not clinging to the mesh trellis. We have to tie string across the vines to encourage them to grow onto the trellis. A strong wind can also knock them off the trellis.

Thanks for the info defrost49. I failed to check the quality of the image before I loaded it. I will see if I can get a better one. As for trellisING the pole beans this will be my first time it will be similar to what I used for my cukes this year

(in the back of the picture). I am planning on growing them up both sides to meet at the top.

As for tomatoes I will look again at spacing to be safe. Most of what I read online said 18-24 inches so I went with 18.

This will be my first year trying the teepee method. Mostly at the request of my wife and son.

My poona kheara cucumbers don't ramble very much. I just plant a few seeds so I don't need a trellis. The concrete reinforcing panels (leftover from a project) are 5' tall x 10' long. The beans went right to the top and then some. I planted on both sides so I can pick from both sides. Do you think you can pick beans from the A-frame trellis if they hang down inside? I haven't used that type.

I, too, tend to start planning for next summer's garden this time of year. Then in the spring as I unpack my seed packets, I find myself consulting half-forgotten scribbled notes and charts like yours to recall what my late summer plans entailed.
