Me too!! At least donate the old ones to Habitat ReStore or another charity, instead of smashing them to smithereens and adding to the landfill! I have this hideous built-in thing I despise. But I'm hoping one day to add a small, enclosed four-season deck and relocate my washer/dryer. The built-in will be removed, possibly much sooner, but either way, it will be repainted and will become my laundry room storage. :-)

nycefarm, there are lots of great storage systems for garages out there. Check Amazon, Google it, big box stores--I'd imagine, like everything "house," you can go from super cheapo to the sky's the limit. For re-purposed, besides Lily'smom's great suggestions, also check CL. I think one thing to think about is if your garage is not climate/humidity controlled, you'll want to be careful to choose materials that can stand up to the cold and heat.

My one suggestion: in any garage or garden shed I've owned over the years, I've always liked a good portion of my shelving and cabinets to be on wheels. Maybe you know exactly how you want everything and you want it all built in. Nothing wrong with that! I find, for me, that my needs tend to change over time, and it's great to be able to re-arrange, remove, add units by rolling them around, rather than tearing them out. You can put wheels on anything, even high-end cabinetry, and hide them from sight with toe-kicks. HTH! :-)
