Damaged baby pumpkin - prune or leave it?

So after years of trying, I got my first ever fruit set.. and my dog damaged it on day 1. I figured it was a goner but I was too sad to prune it off right then. Now on day 3 it's still growing. I know cucurbits can heal scratches, but this gouge is 1 or 2 mm deep and on such a brand new tender fruit I'm surprised it hasn't already died.

What's been your experience with damaged fruit - would you prune this off to save resources, or is it worth waiting to see what happens? How bad a wound can a pumpkin take and keep going?
