decomposed granite advice

I have areas outdoors where I would love to use decomposed granite - in between cement pavers and on my steps leading to the lower yard. My concern is that I live in the Pacific Northwest where we get a lot of rain. If I use DG with a hardener will it work okay in the Pac NW? Or will it turn mushy or wash away?

I don't know what you mean by a hardener. I am in the PNW and we use it around our fire pit with no problems. We tamped it down well with a tamper. Is that what you mean? We get weeds in it periodically that we just pull. Like anything else we could have chosen, rain equals weeds, eventually.

In researching DG I read that it can be purchased with hardeners mixed in already or you add it yourself - otherwise it can get mushy with rain. They also recommended a weed barrier underneath. Glad to know it's working for you in our climate!

I think it will depend upon drainage. Is the ground level? I have seen nasty ruts in DG put in by a homeowner on a slope.

Most people who use it in So Cal use a hardener. My neighbor has it surrounding her flagstone walkway, and it cracked and sunk in spots. They used a hardener, but they're very unhappy with it.
