Best Blooms ?

Now that I have to patiently wait for next year to see some new blooms in my garden

I am curious to know what you consider to be your best bloomer?

I planted some new ones this year which may or may not bloom next year (Do Tell, Coral Charm, Moon of Nippon, Kopper Kettle) I can hardly wait :D

Do Tell looks so delicate but oh so gorgeous! I don't grow this one but have admired it in a visiting garden. Coral Charm takes time to get established to get going. Sometimes it may not bloom the following year after planted as it does not like being disturbed. But once it gets going, it can crank out tons of blooms. Moon of Nippon is a nice single but does not seem to bloom a lot for me. Kopper Kettle, depending on the plant, can either blow you away with their full double gorgeous coppery blooms or rather irregular looking blooms. Good luck!

I am definitely looking forward to Coral Charm! The pictures I've seen look spectacular

I planted about 15 peonies in total this year - didn't realize it was that many until I actually totaled it... oppppps >:)

Finally completed the landscaping project and I did not want to plant before it was done because I know how fickle peonies that are moved can be.

I am sure something will turn up next year but the anticipation of which ones they will be is haunting me lol

The reason for the slight variations in Kopper Kettle I believe is that all stock is grown from tissue culture. For some reason, tissue cultured plants may have different forms and/or shades of color from each other in the beginning. But when they become established, most of them will look similar.

Even non-tissue culture intersectional can vary. Since I like scent only Moon of Nippon would work for me. The corals although very lovely sometimes have the smell of dried anchovies.

maifleur01 that's terrible about the corals! Dried anchovie smell would definitely not be appealing lol

I am drawn to scent as well, I have a couple lovely pink peonies that are highly scented, but I have no clue what they are.

My favorite scented flowers in my garden are my dwarf oriental lilies, they are highly fragrant which some people don't like but I absolutely love how the smell carries through the garden

The scent of the corals isn't pleasant, I agree that if you put your nose right in them there is a slight rotten smell, but it isn't a scent that wafts across a large area. If they're put in a vase with other peonies you won't smell them at all. It's not noticeable even when fully in bloom standing right next to them, or at least not in my garden. If you're looking for pretty the corals are so unique and certainly worth a spot. I'd recommend Coral Supreme or Coral Sunset along with Coral Charm; both fade to some very pretty shades before the petals fall. For the coral color of the bloom and petal count Coral Charm is wonderful.
