Here in Alabama, mine gets very tall. Fairly narrow, upright growth, but definitely back of border heightwise. Likes to bloom at top of canes. I try to hard deadhead to keep the height in check, but doesn't want to bloom again until the canes get at least 6 ft tall.

Thank you, Pat. May I ask how much sunlight yours receives? Is it 2'-3' wide? I'm think this might work since it would be between VQ and Falstaff and may not obscure either and still give room for Heathcliff. That would be great!

Mine is probably 3 to 3 1/2' wide, but I'm in a milder winter climate than you. It is shaded early and late, but has full sun from midmorning to midafternoon. It has those red stamens when fully opened that will look great with your reds

I'm in Raleigh NC and mine is or, so I'm not sure if my input is helpful. However, mine grew from a band to a 6' tall x 4' wide blooming beast by the end of her 2nd summer. Full sun. I had to move her and she has sulked for 2 years. Now is starting to look like she wants to bloom, but nothing like the first 2 years. I'm sorry I moved her. Amazing, strong fragrance, blooms stayed white even in steamy summer, really easy care.

Thank you. we have a long hot season, but it's the winter kill that would affect her size, I guess. Did you move her because she was getting too big? Do you think she did poorly because she didn't like her new spot or due to the move itself? How much sun does she currently get? I hope 6 hrs. is enough.

I did move her because she was so big. In hindsight, I should have left her and tried to narrow her shape. She still gets all day sun; she's in a different part of the same small bed. Before I moved her, she had lovely big flowers all the time. Now, flowers are rather small and infrequent. I might move her to a pot and start over with a new plant in the bed. Sugar Moon is a fabulous rose imho, and I feel horribly guilty for ruining her!

Just thought I'd update. SM has barely been in the ground 2 weeks and she sent up two new basal canes and numerous others that already have buds! This in addition to the numerous buds that were already there. I think she actually likes this more protected location with morning sun. Her blooms are still slow to open, but they last and last and remain fragrant to the end. However, look at the bud colour I'm getting. It's crazy, but I like it! I had considered St. Patrick, but now I don't need to! I don't know why she blooms so much here, while many posts say she's shy. Whatever! I'm a happy camper. She also looks good in the bed with Falstaff, Viking Queen and Heathcliff. I'm going back to HD to see if they may still have another. I have the perfect spot now that I know she doesn't require blazing sun.

I love this rose. Here are some pics of her swan song taken over the course of a week. She's suddenly put on some new buds, but I don't know if they'll have time to bloom. Her fragrance is indescribable.

Vaporvac, looks like I will be adding Sugar Moon, LW. You have sold me on it. There's a perfect spot for a tall rose in my bed. Memorial Day or Firefighter were being considered, but a white rose is always my preference. Since Pope John Paul II would be too short, Sugar Moon should be ideal. I like its many attributes, particularly its petals' tendency not to quill. I don't particularly like blooms with quilled petals, especially if the flower has a low petal count. Such rose blooms look to me like a cheap stick-on bow you get on a cheap holiday gift.

Yay! The thing that's hard to convey, besides scent, is the tactile feel and weight of these petals. They're very heavy and thick and last a long time on the bush (even in hot temps). I don't yet know if they drop cleanly because I eventually cut them so I can carry them around with me inside. (Only partially joking. : ) ) I think I'll eventually have to join the PJP11 contingent if it's anything at all like SM.

Juts wanted to update, mine eventually died of canker, but prior to that required moving, and despite my initial observations, SM needs sun. In fact, all the roses in that bed requires moving and have been successfully replaced by Ghislaine de Feligonde. I only wish I could easily find the pink version to plant with her.

I loved Sugar Moon so much that I bought 3..... however, I am down to one... One died in my flood last fall.... and another one died by growing backwards a couple of years ago.

They can get 6 or 7 foot tall here.... but I learned NOT to let them get that tall because of the canker. It seemed to me when we have our gale wind (or even just heavy wind for several days) that SM starts to get canker..... I think when his canes get whipped around it caused them to get it.... not sure, but it sure seemed like it.... I now TAKE extra long cuttings of his flowers to try and keep it short..... my bushes have all been pretty narrow... but I realized that the height of mine is probably due to my all year long growing season.

I absolutely love this rose .... but it is hard to maintain.

Here in Florida, mine gets just a little over half day sun.
