Floaty voile is fabulous with dark gray. Instead of shutters consider dark brown match stick shades. The texture would add warmth this beautiful room. I can also see a plant in this window to add green complimenting the art over your mantle nicely.

thanks for all your comments and sorry about the duplicate post. Leafiest I also like the swatch second from the right and am toying between that and white floaty curtains. We have a track already but it is within the bay which means that light gets blocked on either side of the window by the curtains, so do you think get a track or rod which extends beyond the width of the window? thanks again everyone

Agree with texture over pattern especially with the gorgeous gray color and casual sophistication of your space. Notice how nice the rustic wood logs in the black bin look against the smooth sleek gray. I would not go with anything too heavy or formal. Linen would introduce a light filtering, sleek yet textural quality perfect for this space. Floaty as you put it. The art above the fireplace is so stunning especially in this setting and is all the pattern your room needs, very nice focal point.

Your room is so streamlined and still charming. I would forgo drapes and use fabric roman shades, probably in the soft white like your trim and furnishings. If you get too much gray going without amping up the texture, it can turn the whole room 'muddy'.

Your photo does not show the entire window, but I am thinking a single shade. The stack for that size window would be about 9".
