New For 2017 Grow Out List. Any ?

If you have read my "Zaps and Keeps " thread , I have made some room for new varieties to try in 2017 , for the first time. But the numbers keep growing. Here is a list, SO FAR.

I have to cut back more than just the ZAPs in order to make room for the new ones. Here is how I will do. Keep just two of the best dark and two red varieties.

Well my harvest is just starting and I will have to re evaluate my "keeps".

Yeah, every year I keep telling myself "gotta cut back next year !". Haha.

Are you thinking about adding new varieties to your 2017 grow out list ?

Gorbelly,

May I suggest that you grow one Dwarf Sweet Scarlet and one Dwarf Rosella Purple? They are both excellent with SS having a bit more of a zing to it. DRP was my fav last year and I grew it again this year. I enjoyed Dwarf Mr. Snow too.

Nice list, Sey! Sudduth's is great; you'll enjoy it!

gg, I am growing both 1884 and SOTW this season and both are outstanding. My top two of this season out of 29 varieties.

I hope to try 25-30 new varieties next season, as well, though both 1884 and SOTW will probably make it back in. My favorites are the pinks, but the yellows/oranges are a unique flavor new to me this season and I very much enjoy them, as well.

I have limited space, and I like to grow at least 2 plants of most varieties, so I don't really repeat varieties. Every year is predominantly new varieties for me.

Next year's candidates so far are:
- pink Berkeley tie-dye (2)
- green giant (2)
- yellow brandywine platfoot or Earl of Edgecombe (2)
- Anna Russian or Kosovo (2)
- Bali (1)
- Matt's wild cherry (1)
- sweet scarlet dwarf or rosella purple (2)
- stupice or moskvich or some other early variety (1)
- maglia rosa (1 or 2, depending on available space or pots)
Plants from this year that I'm tempted to bring back, which would mean booting off one of the plants above or growing only one plant of a variety where I wanted to grow 2:
- pomodoro red pear sel. Franchi
- coyote
Plants that I want to give another try because I neglected them this year:
- dwarf Mr. Snow (the few fruits I got were exceptional in flavor)
- new big dwarf (very good sweet pink beefsteak taste, enormous fruit size for a dwarf plant, really deserved better conditions)
I try to mix up lateness, size, color, shape to get a good diversity of tomatoes.

Many good choices up there.I see not much commonality in picking among us. That is your garden . hehe

nbm, your list is impressive, indeed.

As far as trying to find winners in DARK category, I am pretty much set. I am working on red/pink and orange/yellow varieties.

Alright. I've already got the seeds that I want to grow. All systems are go : T minus 6 months. hehe
