Is it comfortable?? Then I'd work w/ it. I think it's fine and don't know how you would fit a larger on in the room.. I can't figure out your coffee table though. I'd be curious to see something with shine to it-a metal table w/ glass?? If the room seems blah at this point you'll get some great advice here to jazz it up! I'm looking forward to see what is suggested.

I don't think it's so small at all. I don't think you need an ottoman next to the chaise. I have a similar layout, and a sofa with a chaise, and I can't imagine having an ottoman next to it. It would look too crowded, make it hard to walk around there and serve no purpose.

What's blah, is the lack of color in this crowded room. Is that couch or love seat behind the sectional? I think I wider shot would help.

OP, there doesn't need to be anything in the middle space and I would move that ottoman that goes with your old couch out. Your room needs some updating for sure. But there is nothing wrong with that sectional at all and the size seems appropriate to me.

And please do not buy a matching ottoman for this room.

I think the size looks fine. I agree that you shouldn't put an ottoman there, *especially* if it's the same fabric as the sectional. The first thing I would do is remove the pillows that came with it-- at least, the "matching" pillows; the print pillows look good on my iPad. Buy or find pillows that work with the huge expanse of grey.

Size is fine. It may seem a bit low so try adding a sofa table behind with taller items on it to add height to this area of the room.

Ok I took the same color pillows off and the old sofa is gone... I like the idea of putting a sofa table behind it.. Any other suggestions? I was going to have the panels changes to a lighter color with a design.. What do you think?

If you can, I'd move it away from the tv a bit. Are you wedded to the leather chair? Would be nice to see a print. I agree to lighten up the coffee table, glass or metallics. I'd take the flower thing off the mantel, hang the pretty Murrow someplace else and get some art you love for over the fireplace. I think with some good accessorize get this room could be great. Love the sectional.

I agree. Sectional is good size for your room. I would move whole unit back about 2'. Then you could still add a narrow sofa table but you don't need tall things on it. In fact one long glass decorative piece in maybe turquoise then get art for over mantel (mirror adds nothing because it doesn't reflect anything good), and a few pillows with texture and pick up whatever key accent color you like. Replace green drapery panels. Not sure you need anything? They are just decorative right. A interesting new coffee table would add some variation which you are reacting to. I will post some ideas. I would start with picking a nice painting for over mantel. It should be about 2/3rds the width of top of mantel. Then pull color out of artwork for your accent color and put small dashes of that color in 3 other spots in the space. Like I said, glass piece for sofa table, pillow touches, and maybe tray for coffee table with that color. I am not a fan of sectionals, but you made a good choice with this one. You should be excited! You done good! Now you have nice neutral large piece to work with.

I wish the sectional was a little deeper.. Is it a bad idea to have an ottoman made to squeeze into the space like this?

Why do you want to add ottomans to this sectional? There's a chaise on one end and a couch extension on the other where you can lie or put up your feet.

It's not deep enough .. I want this for family lounging time... Unfortunately I learned about the importance of seat depth after I purchased.. And Ethan Allen will not take back...

Standard depth then. Does the whole family lie down to watch tv? Sounds like you might do better to have movie theater seating that has those great reclining chairs with the cup holders.

I don't think you want to spend the money to have a "matching" ottoman or two made. Tres expensive. Check on www.overstock.com and see if you can't find a couple of ottomans that don't match but do kick up the color in the room. Then you can get other accessories that share that color. Just make sure they're easily moved around so that you aren't blocking out people who want to sit upright when they come over to visit or watch the game.

The coffee table, or ottoman is too big, and some color is needed. These are not colors I would ever use, but everything you have blends together and some focus color is needed, a turquoise, bright lime, orange, or whatever color you like would work, for pillows with some pattern and accessories. I think the sectional size is fine for the room too. And I happen to like your drapes.

My last sofa was deeper and really broke in... I think I'm having a hard time adjusting to the newness and shallower depth... Would these tables work?

This seat depth is better for your back. However, I understand the adjustment period. While adjusting, remove the back cushions if you can and use some pillows. A round table is ok, but you might want 2-3 pull up tables. A coffee table will only be useful to people sitting within around 12-18". These tables, sometimes referred to as "C" tables are neat and very functional. I will post some examples. Pier 1 carries many different styles and when they put them on sale, very good deal.

Here is stack of "C" tables. You could have one for each family member or a couple in each end of sofas. Or just "pull up" when you need one. They are very versatile and handy.Fancier one.Simple one. You get the idea.

paradiseh8. If you're going to have ottomans in that center area of the sectional, you aren't going to have room for a coffee table. I love Flo's idea of C tables. Much more versatile and take up less visual space also.

It's a little blah because it's totally brown. You just need a few accents. You've gotten very good advice so far.

Well groveraxle, you're right. What the heck was I looking at thinking it was the original post? Ah ha! I was looking at the original posted picture. Closer up and different show. So I'm not going crazy (yet).

Grover has the right idea of adding color to the space to pull you out of the all brown mode. Is there room to pull the sofa back a bit so the other chair can come in closer and not feel like such an outlier? Maybe add a teal (or whatever accent color you choose) throw to the chair as well to break up the brown a bit.

Possible options from our design book that might help you with your dilemma and add some more color. Notice the artwork, side tables, pillows, and ottomans.
