Use steps. The condition of the roof is interesting.

The entry feels pretty tight so it might be nice to extend the porch to the left so it covers the whole left side of the house and has steps all the way across so it's more inviting which would be very similar to the pic posted by Dytecture. Since your house is very cottagey, I would get some pots with flowers and evergreens to enhance that cottage feeling. I would definitely change the supports on the current entry into some sturdy-looking wood columns.

What sort of budget are you working under? Can the landing be expanded into a wide porch? Can the small roof be extended out or removed?

A couple of simple things would be to remove the shutters on the two windows and add more substantial trim instead. I would add more soil to the flower beds and create natural looking mounds (they show off plants more!), then add some evergreens and flowers, nothing that gets more than 3 ft. high.

Stain the foundation concrete in a very dark grey. The porch posts should match. Buy a large doormat (Front Gate website carries these). I would move the porch light to the other side and hang lower.

HI - Interesting little cottage and can be very cute with a few changes . I think if you put on a deck style front porch from and over the old step to the right corner of the house , then you could have a new roof over the new porch with larger corner posts and decorative railings. You could have the new porch/deck steps coming off the (prefer) front or right side , which ever works for you. Make the new deck/porch about 6 -8 ft. or so deep so there is room for some seating . The shutters should come off , they are not needed . Add wider trim around the windows and have them the same color as the house because it's a small front area it's better to not outline the windows in a color . Have a bright color on the front door . Then add more color with some new landscaping (flowers) with foundation plants etc. There you go - instant cute !
