Dog Lawn from Scratch

last modified: 10 years ago

Hi All,

I've lived in my house for two years now, and what was a beautiful flat, level, weed free lawn has now turned into a baron burnt pitted wasteland. It's so pitted the fly-mo will no longer 'fly' as the air just escapes through the craters. I know I'm never going to have the perfect lawn with two dogs, but I know I can do better than what I have!

Thankfully the puppy has now grown our of her digging phase, and I can deal with the burn spots ok by watering down after they pee ect. The main problem I have is I have two greyhounds. When the play in the garden the speeds they reach are crazy, and while banking in a turn I can see clumps of grass and earth flying into the air/over the fence.

Is there a particular top soil I can get that will stay more solid, or any preparation method (like flattening with a steam roller) that anyone can recommend?
I'm sure there must be something I can do, as polo pitches or horse racing courses manage to keep a fairly decent flat grassy surface going!

Thanks!
