Looks beautiful the way it is. Where are the mirrors?

i'd paint the risers white, it really makes a staircase more navigable in low light.

apple, the stair wall is mirrored. or else they have two staircases side by side. (it does give my tummy a rather funhouse feel...)

A darker stain to match your other trim would look nice, with or without white risers. White paint doesn't make sense in your house. I would really consider taking those mirrors down though - they are very overwhelming.

The mirrors are distracting from the beauty of the wood; better lighting in the stairwell should make up for the mirror reflections. I ditto staining the balustrade to be consistent with the rest of the house. White paint or bleached wood would look out of place I think.
