Was this really necessary?

Hi all,

The local Ikea installers installed my kitchen cabinets late last week. Before then, I had perfectly fine kitchen plumbing ready to be reattached after the countertops go in. They cut off nearly a foot of my drain pipes (the black ones). Is this going to cost me extra (aside from more PVC) to get hooked up again? I know nothing about plumbing.

I would ask on the plumbing forum. Hope not for your sake and if it means it will they should be libel for it.

Cut them? Are you sure they just didn't twist the drain pipe off?

They were cut. The PVC parts are in my shed.

If they were cut at a coupling then I suspect it was necessary. Should be enough there to tie in a new coupling.

You cannot get the cabinet boxes set with all of the plumbing P traps etc in the way. Not unless you want a giant hole in the rear of your cabinets. SOP is to cut to a stub and cap.

PVC is cheap and the odds of your old pipes matching the new sink/disposal are stratospheric. Nothing wrong here.
