I'm currently growing Kaboko cabbage, very few carrots(bad year :-/), Swiss Chard and attempting Cascadia snap peas. Will be sowing Bloomsdale Longstanding spinach, De Louviers escarole and Blue Curled Scotch kale.

This is my first fall garden, so I'm hoping to find what works best in my zone.

I will be building a mini greenhouse over the bed I'm using for fall vegetables.

I am looking to grow Escarole, Radicchio, Chicory, Lettuce, Turnips and Peas. I planted some Escarole, Radicchio, and Chicory in the garden directly about a month ago along with some in my basement under grow lights...the baseplants are fighting fungus gnats so we'll see how things go with them. I planted my turnips about 2 weeks ago along with the peas.

This week am planting some spinach, valleriana, and radishes.

I have done fine with Radicchio and Escarole in the past (as long as I protect them from deer). The rest is new for me. The turnips and peas should be ready by the end of September or early October.

After reading other discussion on this forum I need to make sure I really feed my spinach patch.

I've got greens started like Swiss chard, kale (Tuscan & Red Russian), mizuna, and lettuce. Got a few turnips and rutabagas that are taking off despite an invasion of flea beetle. Peas and carrots are sprouting. Radishes and garlic will go in later in the fall.

I've got a raised bed with a cover that we built to keep out rabbits and squirrels. My plan is to cover it with plastic tarp in winter to help create a mini-greenhouse and see if I can keep some things inside alive.

Here's how we built our raised bed: How to Build a Covered Raised Garden Bed

I kept some Swiss Chard throughout the summer despite the leaves being bitter with the heat, but I'm hoping they'll get sweeter as the temperature cools down. I started some Bloomsdale spinach indoors and will transplant in a week or so. I have some Daikon and Long Noir Maraîcher radishes already getting their true leaves. I'm trying some spring radishes as well, French Breakfast; I already had lots of them earlier this season. I'll probably try some more lettuce. I have a second planting of Cosmic Purple carrots that should be good to harvest in October or so. I planted some beets a few weeks back, but I think it was a bit hot for them and I'm not certain if they'll turn out good; I'm almost tempted to pull them (not that many of them) and use the space for something that's a safer bet.

I have a small cold-frame hoop-tunnel to fit over my 2'x8' raised bed. I'll probably install it when night frosts threaten every few days.

All I have got going for my Fall garden is various lettuce varieties, spinach, carrots, and my Brussels sprouts from the spring that look pretty bad but I am hoping will improve with the cooler weather soon. And of course, the tomatoes, peppers, and eggplants which will hang around until frost, which is forecast around the end of October.

I have a lot of work to do to clean up my garden this fall. I didn't amend this year and have a large pile of compost that needs to go in the garden, also I had a lot of fungal problems this year and need to clean up well. I would like to till and hope to be able to redo my mulch in the spring.

And, of course, there is the garlic planting in October.

50 or so Evergreen white bunching onions

Ah, thanks for reminding me about the horseradish ;)

I have a few leeks left too but they look like they need to be pulled soon. They are getting limpy and I saw a little basal rot on the ones I pulled previously.

I'm way behind. This will be the 4th winter for our plastic covered high tunnel so I'm a little nervous about whether it can survive another winter. It's 6 mil greenhouse plastic. I just dug potatoes that I put in one section for lack of any other place in the early summer. I discovered high tunnels with the sides rolled up seem to be great environments for tomatoes and peppers so they are hogging the space right now. We get a light frost about mid-September. Last year I tried to keep tomatoes going as long as possible but I thought their flavor deteriorated once the nights got cold so this year OUT they will go. I have some arugula, claytonia, kale and cilantro that self seeds. Some chard that's getting a little elderly. Need to plant carrots and according to Johnny's schedule, I should have planted carrots a couple of weeks ago. Our first year we had wonderful spinach most of the winter. Last year when I had carrots started, the furry critters found them.

I usually plant some lettuce that is kind of hardy and some years have had a couple of heads start growing when it warmed up. I'm in NH, zone 5. Last year I was able to overwinter two variegated sages and an upright rosemary. They are still in the high tunnel. I swaddled them with Agribon to help them survive the winter. I have some red cabbage seedlings that also should have been planted a long time ago.

Since my husband constructed the high tunnel using a wood frame/cape cod style roof, I do need to use it.

no need to transplant any chicory. It germinates readily in soil temperatures above 70F.

Broccoli, cauliflower, beets, carrots, butterhead lettuce, sweetpotatoes, second planting of tomatoes, and 7th planting of sweet corn.

Glib I agree they germinated well outside but I didn't have room yet

I have some quick heading chicories that blot out weeds. They are under the beans right now, and they do a number on the weeds, I planted them around June 15. Next year I will plants a lot more of these.

This will be my first fall garden. This is what I've got: Cabbage (red acre & early golden acre), carrots (zanahoria short & sweet), kale (dwarf blue curled vates), broccoli (sun king), spinach (bloomsdale & giant noble), beets (detroit dark red), turnips (purple top white globe), radish (gourmet blend), peas (burpeeana early), and swiss chard.

Sounds like a great first fall garden!

Is everything currently in the ground? How are they doing?
