What do you mean by a home theater system? It could simply be a large, flat-screen TV with some upgraded audio to a full surround sound system. They can cost from under $1000 to over $50,000! Check out systems at the Big Box stores and at a custom home theater dealer.

This is like asking what's the best car. You have to narrow it down a bit, either by features or price.

Suggest you do some reading about what's out there these days. Plenty of consumer-oriented AV magazines and websites to get you started. I'm not saying that to be snide, my stereo is mostly from the 70s and 80s so I am not up on the latest electronics. :-D

If you are looking for something that will play your movies and let you have a Jurassic Park day if you want.. and last a good while.. get a Yamaha 5.1 and buy speakers from monoprice.com
